Daniel Earns 2nd Among Class 1’s and 3rd Overall at San Felipe 250

Luke Finishes 3rd in 1600’s Over 248-Baja Race Course

San Diego, California (March 15, 2010) - Mark McMillin Racing arrived to the white sand beaches of San Felipe, Baja California where the McMillin family has a steep tradition of successful races over the past 30 years. This year would mark the 24th Annual MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 where over 275 race teams would square off against the wilds of the Baja Peninsula.

Mark McMillin led the charge in the #23 Geiser-built Trophy Truck, taking the green flag under the historic arches near the entrance of San Felipe, Baja California. Mark drove a strategic race during the first 148-miles of the race and suffered only a single flat tire before handing the car off to veteran desert racing champion, Chuck Hovey. In fact, Mark was the third truck to race mile 148 after starting in the sixth position.

With Mark’s sons Daniel racing the JIMCO Class 1 car and Luke racing the two seat Alumi Craft 1600 car, he had a lot on his plate after handing his Trophy Truck over to one of the top racers in the world, Chuck Hovey.

Hovey settled into the #23 Chevy-powered Trophy Truck, but only 54-miles into the final run for the checkers, the team experienced a ring and pinion failure that resulted in three hours of downtime.

“We really had a solid effort going on with Chuck headed into race mile 200, but once we were down with the broken ring and pinion that took its toll on our overall efforts. I’m proud the team came together and got the truck back in the race where we finished 15th. That’s all part of racing,” said Mark McMillin.

In another spectacular performance, Mark’s oldest son, Daniel McMillin, drove the McMillin Racing JIMCO Class 1 car to the runner up position finishing 3rd overall. The elite field of Class 1 had 18 starters as Daniel earned yet another podium position adding to an impressive start to the 2010 SCORE Desert Series. Daniel finished the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge race in 3rd position and now with his success in the Baja wilds of San Felipe, Daniel McMillin will head to the infamous SCORE Baja 500 in his race for a season championship.

Daniel McMillin commented,“We had a great day of racing and once again, the race team performed perfectly. The guys in the shop did a great job on the setup of our JIMCO Class 1 and we ran a solid race.”

Luke McMillin kicked off the day among a large field of 1600 race cars and he was prepared for what was a rough and tumble day among the 1600 racers. With the first 60-miles of the race course rougher than its ever been before, the youngest McMillin racer endured the ground-pounding and drove his Alumi Craft to a 3rd place podium finish.

As the day came to a close Mark McMillin smiled and reflected, “What a great day of racing in San Felipe! Both of the boys finished on the podium today and I couldn’t be any happier. We are really looking forward to the Baja 500 in June.”
